What it is

Per 1 t of dense-phase CO2 at 15.3 MPa and 30 degC (99.95 mol% CO2), gate-to-gate, from the wet stripper vent of a natural-gas ammonia plant. Compression, drying and cooling only; the CO2 separation belongs to the ammonia plant, and the vent gas enters without burden (system-model section 2, step 4). After the NETL ammonia case of 2023.

Cooling-water make-up per t of CO2 conditioned
No open source independent of the dataset found (2026-11-05). The only figures read are NETL (2023), DOE/NETL-2023/3907, Exhibits 5-7 and 5-26: water consumable of the ammonia case (46,000 gal/d, 130.8 kg/t, the dataset itself) and the ethanol case (17,000 gal/d, 164.2 kg/t). They are the dataset's own source, so they are kept only as its uncertainty spread and not as a check. Read without a per-tonne make-up figure: McCollum and Ogden (2006) UCD-ITS-RR-06-14 (no cooling water), IPCC SRCCS (2005) ch. 3; a web search for open make-up water figures of CO2 compression intercooling found none stated per t of CO2.

Electricity per t of CO2 compressed (and dried) to pipeline pressure
No open source found (2026-11-05) that states a per-tonne electricity for compressing (and drying) high-purity CO2 to pipeline pressure independently of the dataset. Read: McCollum, D.L., Ogden, J.M. (2006) UCD-ITS-RR-06-14, section 'Calculation of Compressor & Pump Power Requirements', pp. 2-4, which prints the compressor and pump power equations and a figure of power against flow, but no per-tonne value. Evaluated by us with the parameter values it states (five stages from 0.1 to 7.38 MPa with their Z and k, inlet 40 degC, isentropic efficiency 0.75; pump from 7.38 to 15 MPa, 630 kg/m3, efficiency 0.75), it gives 100.4 kWh/t compression plus 4.5 kWh/t pumping, 104.8 kWh/t, without cooling-water power or drying. That is our own model evaluation, so it is not recorded as a range. NETL (2023) DOE/NETL-2023/3907 gives 105.6 kWh/t (ammonia, Exhibits 5-3 and 5-4: 5,860 kW over 55,488 kg/h) and 112.7 kWh/t (ethanol, Exhibits 5-22 and 5-23: 1,840 kW over 16,329 kg/h), divided by us; it is the dataset's own source, so it is not a check either. Both are kept as the dataset's uncertainty spread.

Downloads

A file with this activity alone is not available: each file above is the whole database, and the line under it says how to find this activity there.

import bw2data as bd
from cheme_as_code_lci import install

bd.projects.set_current("my-project")   # holds your licensed background + biosphere3
install("cheme-as-code-atlas-preview-a3c52e4.xlsx", background="ecoinvent-3.11-cutoff", location="DE")
activity = bd.get_activity(("cheme-as-code-atlas-preview-a3c52e4", "carbon-capture-1:co2-conditioning-ammonia-stripper-vent:product:CO2"))

While any exchange of the database has no mapping, install() writes nothing and only lists the unlinked exchanges. So the last line finds no activity until the gaps are mapped: the download section gives the ways to use the database now.
